    A hot summer’s morning the eucalypts are shiny on the side of the hill. Shiny, shiny is a quote from the movie ‘Little Fish’, “shiny shiny girl” who isn’t so shiny anymore, but struggles on. One of the eucalypts has died recently and the trunks of others stand as sentinals to a lost era, before the effects of land degradation and the stresses of climate change.

    This Native Cherry tree is on a track through our private forest reserve. This feels like a special tree when it is illuminated in the late afternoon light. It is in an area that has been used for hunting by recent hunters and I imagine past indignenous peoples. Now the deer camp under this tree and eat the ripened cherrys.
